Great point Amy, I agree wholeheartedly! I had a massive influx of auto DMs this morning which led me to find a way to ‘opt out’ of receiving them – for details see my post “How to Stop #clickmyjunk Auto DMs”

I would like newbie Companies to know that when you add an auto respond to Twitter it cheapens you. People want to feel like they are important and not get generic automated messages. If you don’t have time to respond to the potential customer, then they will not have the time to be your customer.

How do you use twitter? I use it for networking with other people in my profession (eLearning, teaching, vocational education etc), to find out what my friends are doing, and also to keep track of things that interest me (craft, photography etc) What is the most confusing thing about twitter? I guess when I a new thing comes along it can be confusing- but generally I follow people who post links which explain it all. What other advice do you have for the Twitter Noob? hashdictionary.com is definitely a good one! I would say that you need to be INVOLVED in your twitter community, and be willing to ask questions- twitterers are so friendly and people are always looking to help others! BTW, @lukecarbis and I are drooling over your theme! What's it called? Talia’s last blog post..Plush Mushy!

Beyond that, getting to grips with the information overload badly handled on the Twitter main site by using Tweetdeck, etc, to wrangle them all in.

Thanks Hayley, i would love to have a look at the tutorial you put together! When I first started using twitter I had no idea why people where putting #’s in front of words, however it can be a great way to find new information.

I’d let people know that by using #hashtags you can track information. For example, I created a #hashtag called #recipeXchange. I was then able to go back and see how many people responded and grab their links for that topic at a later date. I also use the hashtag #aussietweetup #perth to see how many people are talking about our Anzac Day tweetup in Perth at 2pm at the Kings Park Cafe. This helps me to know how far my message is being retweeted and what kind of response it is getting from people who I am not following.

I delivered a one hour tutorial on how I use Twitter in my business and personal life. I’d be happy to pass it on to you Matt once I get it from Roy, the guy who did the recording. I went through a heap of Twitter things in that session that may be of interest to you and your readers/followers.
